Over view of position The Continuous Improvement (CI) Engineer works with all levels of the organization to define and execute the CI Roadmap. By facilitating structured team problem solving, the CI Engineer drives the creation and maintenance of the Empire Business System which includes: voice of the customer, demand flow, kaizen blitzes, A3 events, standard work, visual management/5S, pull based Material Replenishment Systems (kanban) and KPI’s tracked on Gemba Boards. This position also coordinates activities to sustain 5S and the cleanliness of the facility. We are looking for a self-starter with excellent organizational, facilitation and communication skills. The success of the CI Engineer is defined by Empire’s ability to achieve performance goals in the key areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the Operations Leadership Team to create/maintain the CI Roadmap
- Facilitate, and follow through on A3 and kaizen blitz events
- Track completion of action items and KPI performance from Kaizens/A3s
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of standard work created from Kaizens/A3s
- Maintain and audit Gemba boards, making changes/improvements as needed
- Mentor production supervisors on correct Gemba board usage and problem solving
- Support the improvement, expansion and maintenance of Empire’s Material Replenishment System (MRS) at all facilities
- Coordinate internal and external resources for cleaning and waste removal
- Coordinate internal and external resources for brush clean up and snow removal
- Travel to other Empire facilities as required to support the CI Roadmap
Skills/Qualifications
- BS in Engineering or equivalent experience
- At least 2 years experiences with lean/continuous improvement in manufacturing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams to achieve objectives
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Self-starter with high sense of responsibility
- Creates positive energy among team
- Comfortable and effective with both one-on-one coaching and team facilitation
- Ability to understand and resolve people and process related problems
