Manufacturing Engineer Level 3

Position Overview

Empire Comfort Systems, a manufacturer of space heaters, fireplaces and grills, is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our North American Manufacturing Engineering Team.  This position is based in Belleville, IL (20 miles east of St. Louis, MO); however, travel to other facilities may be required.

As a Manufacturing Engineer at Empire, this individual will be responsible for creating standard work, process improvements, cost savings, capacity planning, capital project management, production line designs, machine programming, new product introductions and implementing product changes.

Good working knowledge of Visual Management, 5S, SMED, KANBAN, Mix-model flow line, design for manufacturing and assembly, project management, AutoCAD, MS Excel / Word, PowerPoint are required.  Managerial experience and a MBA or Engineering Management degree are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Help production achieve safety, quality, delivery and cost expectations
  • Drive continuous improvements in production through:
    • Data driven inputs
    • 8 waste elimination
    • Visual Factory Management
    • RCCA
  • Perform time studies and line balancing
  • Create standard work documents
  • Define material replenishment systems and pull signals
  • Design and implement new production lines and areas
  • Modify production lines and areas
  • Implement New Products (NPD)
  • Implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO)
  • Lead and be a productive team members in cross-functional activities

Skills & Qualifications

  • BS in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering desired, equivalent experience may be considered
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing:
    • Fabrication, resistance and mig welding, powder and wet painting, final assembly of light gauge sheet metal consumer appliances produced in a medium – low volume, high – medium mix environment
  • Demonstrated basic lean manufacturing implementations
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • High level of mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to lead small teams and drive improvements
  • Good time management habits
  • Successful project management experience
  • Strong project management skills
  • Competent in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Working knowledge of MRP / ERP systems
  • Authorized to work in the US
